All-time Indians team leader in games (1,619) had 1,472 hits (eighth in club history) and 254 steals (second). He led AL shortstops in fielding percentage four times. Scored 699 runs overall in a 17-year career (1901-19). Turner split most of his time between shortstop and third base. Generally a subpar hitter, he nevertheless hit .308 in 1912 and three times broke up no-hitters. Because normal slides hurt his ankles, he pioneered the use of the headfirst slide. |
